Every year, 16th December is celebrated as Vijay Diwas. This day, in the year 1971 Indian Army won the war against Pakistan. Due to this war, Bangladesh was formed. which was East Pakistan, formerly. Around 93,000 Pakistan soldiers surrendered in front of India, displaying white flags. 16th December, that is today, we remember all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in this war and honor them. This war was started on 3rd December, 1971 This war went on for around 13 days. Officially, on 16th December 1971 Pakistan Army surrendered in front of Indian Army. In this war, 3800 soldiers sacrificed their lives so that they could destroy Pakistan’s Genocide Plan. This plan was against the Bengali population residing in East Pakistan. In this war, one third army of Pakistan was taken into captivation. This Indo-Pakistan war caused the liberation war for Bangladesh. which was a conflict between two dominant political parties. The first one was Western Pakistan Party and the second one was the majority of Eastern Pakistan Party. Pakistani’s tortured, raped and killed the Bengali population which was residing in East Pakistan. Due to this 9 million refugees were sent to India. On this day, in the year 1971 the chief of Pakistan Army, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niyazi along with 93,000 people surrendered to India Army and Mukti Bahini. The last and the most important fact is, at the end of this war, General Tika Khan was given the nickname – “Butcher of Bengal” The reason was that he conducted widespread slaughter.
