Bristol Community College, Mathematics with
Dan Avedikian, ACCUPLACER Review, Elementary Algebra Problem 4. This is the Elementary
Algebra ACCUPLACER Review, Problem number 4, the question we have is negative 3 with
these long vertical lines on either side. So what that means is absolute value. So they
want the absolute value of negative 3. Absolute value just means keep the number the same
and make sure the answer is positive. So if it is a positive value keep it the same. If
it’s the negative value just switch it to positive. So the number stays the same, it
will stay 3. And you make sure it’s positive. Well, my answer for absolute value of negative
3 is positive 3. And if I look at the 4 options listed, option D is positive 3. So the answer
is D.
